Some of the strangest worlds in the universe orbit the most extreme objects. Hot Jupiters are massive gas giants that orbit incredibly close to their stars so close they complete an orbit in just days and reach extreme temperatures. But it gets even stranger. Some planets don’t orbit normal stars at all. They orbit pulsars the collapsed cores of dead stars that emit intense radiation and act like cosmic beacons. These environments are so extreme that any nearby planets are unlike anything in our solar system.
