Choir Part Practice: "In dulci jubilo", for 8 voices by Michael Praetorius from Musae Sioniae 2, No. 5. The well known melody is treated here antiphonally as a double choir piece by Praetorius, with the phrases being batted from one choir to the other. At the end both choirs combine in a majestic final statement. In Dulci Jubilo is among the oldest and most famous of the "macaronic" songs, one which combines Latin and German. The words below are from a poem thought to have be written by the German mystic Heinrich Seuse in 1328.

In dulci jubilo,
Nun singet und seid froh!
Unsers Herzens Wonne liegt
in praesepio,
Und leuchtet als die Sonne
Matris in gremio,
Alpha es et O!

In quiet joy
Now sing with hearts aglow!
Our delight and pleasure lies
in a manger;
Like sunshine is our treasure
in the mother's lap.
Thou art Alpha and Omega
