ELEPHANTS ALIVE! - Science and Survival
Elephants Alive (formerly known as Save the Elephants-South Africa) is a non-profit organisation based in the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park.
Our mission is to protect elephants and their habitats and promote harmonious co-existence with humans. Our long-term research is providing vital information for conservation management, of these free-roaming elephants.
In keeping with the expansion of the conservation area, we have expanded our research efforts. At present we are looking at what drives transboundary elephant movements to the north (Pafuri), the east (Limpopo National Park) and the west (Associated Private Nature Reserves) and south (Mozambique) of the core conservation areas Kruger National Park. Once this information has been gathered it will then be used for developing operational guidelines by wildlife management policy-makers.
Through our Grass Roots Educational Programme we recognize that the people with whom elephants share resources have an important role to play in their future and are potentially important ambassadors for elephants and wildlife conservation.
