Hello this is Kathy Dise with BudgetEase answering questions I received from one of you - "Are Bookkeeping Services Costly and What is the Minimum That I Would Expect to Pay if I Hired a Bookkeeper?" These are great questions. Cost for bookkeeping services vary greatly. In a recent survey of bookkeepers their services averaged about $80 an hour, the survey's on our website www.budgetease.biz, look under resources and then just scroll down to the bottom. I would guess that the range is somewhere between $35 an hour to a hundred dollars an hour. You'll find that QuickBooks consultants charge more than other bookkeepers so $80 an hour is a good average. Some accounting firms charge one hundred and eighty dollars an hour for bookkeeping services of course many business owners do it themselves and the cost of their time that could have been better used for marketing may be extremely high, but your question was what is the minimum commitment. It depends upon the number of bank accounts, the number of transactions, and what you have to have done. For $300 a month many small companies could have an experienced bookkeeper come in and review their QuickBooks style and offer some valuable advice.
