Pinot Noir is a notoriously difficult grape to grow, but when this grape is made correctly through all of the difficulty it is unparrelled in excellence. In this video, I am reviewing one of the best selling Pinot Noir wines in the U.S. We will be reviewing the 2015 Meiomi Pinot Noir from California. This wine is trying to reflect the coastal regions of California and it is a blend of Pinot Noir from different coastal counties. It posses medium ruby color, medium+ intensity, pronounced palate intensity, less than medium acidity and off dry sweetness. Its sweetness bothers me a bit and with low tannin its flavor doesn’t come up so well. Watch the video and see on your own if this wine showcases the coastal terroir of California.

0:03.2 welcome to episode six of wine to our in today's episode we're gonna be looking at the number one brand of Pinot Noir in the u.s. may owe me peon waar in 2015 this brand was sold to constellation
brand wine brands for 315 million dollars stick a minute and talk about Pinot Noir so Peter noir is obviously a red grape it is a thin skin red grape and because of that thin skin is sometimes lower on medium to low on tannins and you know lighter on color it is often usually

0:55.0 grown in cooler climates it will have medium to high acidity one of the things with the grape that most growers will tell you is that it's very hard to grow and it's very finicky and either you know be have issues with frost or things like that but it can also all the way out to from the vineyard all the way into the cellar when there when the
winemaking process is happening any little issue and any that surfaces will be reflected in the wine that's what that's what makes it interesting now may owe me means coast in the tribal

1:27.6 language of the wobbu native americans that were original inhabitants of the north northern california area including Napa the reason this wine is named Maya Mayo me is that's meant to highlight the coastal regions of California so each year this is a blend and in varies year to year of pinot noir from different several different counties so Monterey County Santa Barbara County and Sonoma
County so let's talk a little bit about

1:55.6 this bottle so this is labeled as a California bottle California wine it's not a specific location since it is a blend of three different counties Monterey County Santa Barbara County and Sonoma County in each year it varies from bottle to bottle but in the 2016 it's about 60% Monterey 23% Santa Barbara and 17% Sonoma County now the goal is that in the blend that each of these counties represent a certain flavor profile and when they all come together that these coastal counties make a a holistic improved wine that is

2:32.2 enjoyable for the consumer there is a lot of this wine made in 2015 who is projected to make seven hundred thousand bottles that's a lot that's that's why it's an the number one selling this bottle retails for around $20 making a good Pinot Noir that it reflects its place for sub $40 is very very difficult let alone for $20 one other thing I wanted to note is that this wine is labeled s Pinot Noir but by California labeling laws that means that has to have at least a minimum of 75% of that grape in order to have that on its

3:03.2 label now that means that some years it is in some years other grapes can be blended in to accentuate or highlight certain flavors that they need it's not very clear from the text sheets on the Mayo main website about what is actually included in these in these bottlings it never says 100% Pinot Noir but never tells you what the breakdown is I have seen other w
