Why May 3rd is Polish Constitution Day - Our Lady of Częstochowa

The Polish American Congress Ohio Division hosted its 75th Polish Constitution Day Parade and celebration on May 4, 2025 in Parma Ohio (outside of Cleveland). After the Parade there was a short program. Rev, Eric Orzech, Pastor of both St Stanislaus and St. Casimir Churches and the Polish American Congress – OH (PAC) Chaplain served as MC. He told why the date of May 3 was chosen. That date was already chosen as the feast of Our Lady, Queen of Poland. He spoke of fighting off a Swedish siege and the Black Madonna (Our Lady of Częstochowa) is said to have miraculously saved the monastery of Jasna Góra from a Swedish invasion. The Siege of Jasna Góra took place in the winter of 1655 during the Second Northern War, as the Swedish invasion of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth is known.
