In this episode, we're talking to Dr. Nick Walker. Dr. Walker is a core faculty member at CIIS who is also a "flamingly autistic author and educator," best known for her book Neuroqueer Heresies and her foundational work on the neurodiversity paradigm and Neuroqueer Theory. I talked with Dr. Walker about the misinformation related to Autism Awareness Month, "the pathology paradigm vs. the neurodiversity paradigm," the ways faculty members can better support their autistic students and other neurominority students, and the ways each of us can show up with responsibility and awareness reflected in changed language and practices.
