How an Outdoor Wood Boiler Works | Fall Boiler Maintenance

Each year before I light my first fire, I like to go through my Hardy Outdoor Wood Boiler and make sure it is operating as it should - that the pump is running right; the water is fresh, clean and treated; and everything is operationally sound. I also like to wait to start my boiler until the cold will last throughout the day, and that it will stay consistently cold so that I don’t have to keep starting new fires every day. I own my propane tank, so I can shop around for the best price on propane, but wood heat is far cheaper! No one likes paying for propane.

In this video I also give an overview of how an outdoor wood furnace works, specifically the Hardy brand. How it heats and pushes the water into the house to be used with a heat exchanger on forced air furnace.

The chemicals I used today were CF205 (the cleaner) mixed with 2 gallons of white vinegar and then the ProTech 300 (water treatment) after I had drained and refilled the boiler. The cleaner and water treatment were purchased from Alternative Heating & Supplies.
