So, if you need answers for all these questions you need to understand. What is Rhinoplasty? Rhinoplasty basically means is, we are reshaping and correcting the shape of the nose. Our nose is made up of cartilage which is the soft part of the nose; the upper part of the nose is made up of bone and in the middle is the septum which is a little hard cartilage. So in the rhinoplasty procedure we make changes in these three parts of the nose. We don’t make any changes in the breathing path of the nose unless we are doing septoplasty. So, rhinoplasty is basically a cosmetic surgery for reshaping of the nose we do not interfere with the breathing pattern of the nose.

In cosmetic rhinoplasty what procedure we are doing completely depends on the requirement of the nose. Like reducing the broadness of the nose, sharpening of the tip, removal of dorsal hump, reducing the size of the nostril holes and combination of these requirements. Sometimes it is the septum procedure in which there is the problem of breathing in patients, like correction of deviated septum.

We perform changes in the bone and cartilage area of the nose, so there will be skin related changes and side effects will happen like swelling, redness, discomfort or pain but there is no difficulty in breathing.

We assure you it will not be worse than your present situation, it will only improve from the present situation. The improvement may not be 100% but it will be 70-90% and it will not be poor from its current state. It will only improve from its current state.

This procedure is entirely safe it is done under general anesthesia. General anesthesia is the safest form of anesthesia compared to spinal or regional anesthesia. In this general anesthesia the complete control of respiration and heart is under anesthetist or the operator. So there is no risk or side effect for the patient in general anesthesia. This is 1 hour to one and half hour procedure and we discharge the patient on same day or next day. The scar marks of the cartilage are very small in size which get dissolved in 2-3 weeks even in alar base reduction procedure the marks get dissolved in 2-3 months. Even in osteotomy very small incision is 1mm to 2mm and that scar is not visible after one week.

So, there are no scar issues, there can be a temporary swelling. If the procedure is intense like in osteotomy we are breaking bone there can be swelling for more days. We use Dressing for starting 4-5 days after that there is no need for dressing.
