EASILY adjust behind your head and neck with this fitted face mask with Smart Fab liner!
Making the perfect mask isn't easy! Some ears just don't work for ties behind the ears, while others don't like having something over the top of their heads. Many need to have their masks on them and easily accessible, which long ties allow (as long as they don't have to be untied and tied). That's where this design is perfect! My fitted (as well as improved 3D box masks), can be found at www.etsy.com/shop/jennysmaskstudio.com
It adjusts with 2 pony beads for a superb fit. It can be loosened easily by simply moving the pony bead. Long adjustable ties around the head, have seemed to work well with my children because when they are in the car, and not needing their masks, they can simple let it hang in front of them. I know this is JUST ONE of the many options out there!
Here I've shown how I make this mask: https://youtu.be/Th0FZPgDXis. The only thing I've changed is the length of the ties (16" each) and which ties I put the bead through!! You can always change out the ties with this design.
NOTES ON MAKING THESE MASKS FOR YOURSELF:
Of all the patterns I've used, this has been my favorite! Thank you Mimi G. Style for creating it! It's so easy to sew! You can find the Printable mask pattern here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/0fymxhh97qm6xcu/AAAWkjZbjuwHrpKf6c6aXqhpa?dl=0

MY WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1sN7QQ4s3idHioR6Q-6qSMT1sJSyrfD4D
Using Smart fab: It is non-woven and water doesn't leak through it (as far as I've tried). But don't put an iron directly over it because it will melt. When it's in the mask, I haven't had trouble pressing it. The cheapest place I found the Smart fab (IN STOCK) was here (and it arrived within a week): https://www.discountschoolsupply.com/arts-crafts/arts-crafts-supplies/fabric-felt-yarn/smart-fab-rolls---48--x-40/p/32102. (Plastic needles can also be found at Discount School Supply). This is my favorite video EXPLAINING what types of supplies you can use for making the fitted masks. I love all of The Fabric Patch videos but this one highlights the IMPORTANCE of NON-WOVEN layers! https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=166&v=v8HNYKvlaN8&feature=emb_title
Nose wire: There are so many different options out there. Just use what you like best , have on hand and works well for you (or the people you're making them for). I like this wire cut into 2" pieces: https://www.amazon.com/858-Luster-Leaf-Rapiclip/dp/B014263B80/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=garden%2Bwire&qid=1589319136&sr=8-4&th=1
Making t-shirt ties: This is a great way to Upcycle those shirts laying around that are too small or too big! I've also used shirts my children have outgrown or don't like. I just get 1 tie from each strip since I have little kids. 😉
When I cut my t-shirt across, I make my strips 3/4" or even 1/2" wide to make them easier to bead. If you make them too skinny they may rip, but too wide and they won't fit through the hole of your bead. My favorite shirts are 90% cotton and 10% spandex because it mimics elastic but is softer. Also note: NOT ALL T-shirts will curl! So test before cutting your whole shirt!
In this tutorial by Jan Howell, you can go to 4:00 min. into the video to see how to cut your t-shirts (she is using the same shirt that I use!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UejCpjfbn8&list=PLhK3iKgqV1r2P3oO7J4yrSTpQgts7tEEh&index=5she.
Choosing your fabric: Be sure to use high quality cotton fabric (I use quilting fabric). It's nice to have 2 different fabrics for the front and back. Just make sure when you cut your pieces that right sides are together and pre-wash your fabric.
