Make other person feel welcome, WANT to interact with you. (some people develop a defense mechanism against this – this is bad in the long term)
Fallacy of being alpha/mean/gruff/too direct.
Elements:
- Be pleasant
- Smile
- Be polite
- Not rigid or formal, but warm and personal.
- Make them feel good. / Important / compliment them / give them your full attention.
In conversation, ask the other person questions – ask them about THEM – specifically, something they WANT to talk about and ENJOY talking about.
Active listening – show you’re listening, by responding, and repeating by asking questions.
Always say thank you. Always send a thank you note.
Always respond (no ghosting) to polite communication – no ghosting.
Why is this good?
- You will be management material – be a leader – someone people would WANT to have to deal with.
- Good for you career – people get hired for this. Hiring managers care most about this. Often it’s the tiebreaker in hiring decisions.
- This will help you make friends / get customers / build your network.
- Influencing - make people more willing to help you, or be persuaded by you.
Idea of the “Victorian gentleman” – often lacking today but you can distinguish yourself by doing it. Especially in business contexts. Opposite of being a jerk. This is a step towards likeability and having leadership qualities.

Welcome to another educational HR video on how to pass a job interview. What question can you ask at the end of an interview to help you get hired? Each tip addresses what recruiters look for. I also address ending an interview on the right note.
I'm going to give you the best answer (from a former CEO).
There is a big difference between what you learn in business school, and what you need to know in the real world – just ask any startup founder or business owner! My goal is to focus on the real-world aspects of business, giving practical tips and tricks that are not usually covered in school.
This channel is a platform to help entrepreneurs and business owners succeed. It is also to help the world at large to be more effective and successful. The world can certainly use more inspiring leaders, more successful entrepreneurs, and more capable managers - that is what I would like to help bring about.
Who Am I?
I am a practicing management consultant, former CEO, and entrepreneur. I have led many businesses to success, as well as several startups. Among other things, I have an engineering degree, an MBA, a master's degree in finance, and a master black belt in lean six sigma.
I have worked across five industries, and have worked in both large enterprise and small businesses. In the last five years, I have also been mentoring startup founders and teaching business at a post-graduate level.
Why I Want To Involve My Community:
The only way this channel will succeed is with YOUR help. In order to know how best to proceed, I need constant feedback from YOU. What topics should I cover? What challenges are you facing? What questions do you have? What changes should I make?
Please contact me with questions, and I will try my best to help. Best of luck!
Thank you for being here and reading this, and have yourself an amazing day!
