Surprised by unusual damage

Something very strange has been happening to the compressor of this Orenda type 10 turbojet engine, which is going back into a Canadair Sabre Jet.
Let's avoid some confusion: I am not asking for your recommendations on what to so, and there is no vote. The compressor rotor is being replaced.
