DIY Rotating Bookcase
We found this rotating bookcase on PBTeen and thought it was the perfect addition to our daughter’s new bedroom makeover! We couldn't find the exact plans for this, but the dimensions were on the web-site, so that's where we started.
Here';s a supply list and some rough dimensions for those brave enough to try it themselves (remember, we were winging it!):
2 - 1/2" sanded plywood
1 - 1x2x8 common board
1 - 1x4x8 common board
1 - standard board
2 – 8ft lengths of window casing
Trim for Mirror
Trim for Cork Board
12 – white plastic shelf supports
12” Lazy Susan
16” x 60” Beveled Glass Mirror
12” x 48” Adhesive Cork Roll
Back - plywood - 69 x 21 ¼
Sides - plywood - 68 x 20 ¼
Top frame - 1x2 - 20 ½ x 20 ½
Bottom frame - 1x4 - 20 ½ x 20 ½
Top for top frame - plywood - 20 ¾ x 21 1/8
Bottom for top frame - plywood - 20 ¼ x 20 ¼
Top for bottom frame - plywood - 19 ¾ x 20 ¼
Bottom for bottom frame - plywood - 20 ¼ x 21
3 Shelves – plywood – 20 x 20 ¼
Base frame – 2x4 – 20 ½ x 20 ½
Top Trim – cut to fit
Bottom Base Trim -cut to fit
Quick assembly instructions - We assembled the top and bottom frames using the 1x2 and 1x4's. We then attached the plywood back and sides to the top and bottom frames.
Next, we added the top plywood for the top frame & then the bottom plywood to the top frame. Then we did the same for the bottom, we added the plywood top to the bottom frame and the plywood bottom to the bottom frame. We cut 3 plywood shelves
and attached them using white plastic shelf support brackets.
Next, we built the base using 2x4’s and added a plywood top. We attached the bookcase to the base using a 12” lazy susan. We added the window casing to the top of the frame and to the bottom
of the base. We used window casing to trim out the mirror and we used window casing to trim
out the corkboard.
Lastly, we painted and sealed everything!
This was a relatively easy project, the challenge was determining the measurements on the fly. It turned out exactly like I wanted it! And it looks great in our daughter’s room.
