Great Smoky Mountains 1702: Steaming into the New Year

Happy New Year!

The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad ended 2017 in style with a week of excursions along the Tuckasegee River behind the 1702. On New Year's Eve, we headed over the mountains to see the last run out of Dillsboro. Although the forecasted sunny skies never appeared, the below-freezing temps made for some excellent steam plumes as the 1942 consolidation concluded her 75th year. After we began our trip back to Tennessee to celebrate the new year, 1702 would pull the final two Polar Express trips to Whittier.
