'It's devastating': British soldiers who served in Afghanistan react to Taliban takeover of Kabul

Former British servicemen who served in Afghanistan have reacted to the Taliban takeover of Kabul, with one describing it as "heartbreaking and devastating".

"Just the devastation, the loss, just how easy the Taliban have taken over the country..." Jack Cummings, former Royal Engineer, said. "I'm just lost for words."

Some veterans also called on Western governments to do more after the Taliban overthrew the Western-backed government in Afghanistan.

Dominic Nichols, defence and security correspondent for the Daily Telegraph who also served in Afghanistan, asked for Britain to "do right" by the people of Afghanistan who helped the military effort.
