"I would like you all to help me celebrate the life and work of Antonio 'L.A.' Reid - a man and artist we're honoring tonight for his outstanding contribution to the music industry. L.A. Reid doesn't just love music, he lives it and breathes it. As the Chairman of Island Def Jam Music Group, L.A. Reid is shaping the present and future of the music industry in the 21st century working with established and emerging artists in a world where music and video and new technologies are reaching into people's lives in ways we couldn't imagine even a decade ago. A triple Grammy winner in his own right, L.A. Reid has been responsible for signing and bringing multi-platinum sales to a variety of artists including Usher, TLC, Young Jeezy, Bon Jovi, Ciara, Outcast, Dido, Avril Lavigne, and Pink only to name a few. Oh yeah, and I almost forgot, me. Thank you. And so it gives me great pleasure that this year the World Music Awards have chosen to present L.A. Reid with this award here. Now unfortunately, L.A. Reid is in Atlanta tonight paying his last respects to Shakir Stewart whose recent tragic death took away one of the lights of our world. Our prayers are with Shakir's family and friends in this time of loss. I know from my own experience how great it feels to receive Outstanding Achievement awards and it is a bittersweet honor to accept it on behalf of L.A. Reid. Thank you and God bless you."
