Picholine: Sudden and Unexplained death at 1 year old.

Picholine, one of my favorite Olive Egger hens, died suddenly this morning. She was behaving normally, eating, drinking, normal chicken poop. She slept on the roost last night and flew down easily.

I am posting this simply to show har behavior in the minutes leading up to her death. She did not experience any trauma inside the nest box, but almost immediately, you can see that she begins to sag. She straightens up twice, moving fairly normally, but then she stops moving. When I found her an hour later, she was still warm, body was already rigid but her head and neck were limp. She was not egg bound - she had laid an egg yesterday.
