The RUF500 Diver Automatic is an ultra-resistant divers watch engineered by RUF for the conquest of the deep.

The movement of the RUF500 Diver Automatic is the ETA 2824-2. The 2824-2 is an automatic winding, twenty-five jewel movement. It has a 38-hour power reserve and runs at 28,800 bph (4Hz). The ETA 2824-2 is the epitome of a workhorse offering not only outstanding reliability, but also considerable durability. 

The RUF500 Diver Automatic is waterproof to a depth of 500 metres, and it is the result of decades of collaboration with diving professionals. It is build with a virtually indestructible case architecture enabling the watch to resist the colossal pressure of the deep.
To address the needs of professional divers, RUF has integrated such features as the helium escape valve, which allows the watch to “decompress” with the diver after deep saturation dives. Before they return to the open air, professional divers heading for the surface after a deep saturation dive must spend time in a decompression chamber, where they breathe a gas mixture containing helium. The tiny molecules of helium, an extremely light and non-volatile gas, infiltrate everywhere in the chamber, also penetrating the watch. During decompression, the helium is unable to escape from the waterproof case quickly enough, creating a pressure differential that could force the crystal out of the watch case. RUF engineers created a gas escape valve fitted with a spring: it opens when the difference in pressure between the inside and outside of the watch reaches 3 to 5 bars, allowing the helium to escape, thereby protecting the watch.
It has a classic blue dial with lumed hands and indices and a rotating ceramic bezel.
The innovative chroma light display on the dial pushes back the boundaries of visibility in dark environments. Its distinctive blue glow lasts up to eight hours with a uniform luminosity, practically twice as long as that of standard luminescent materials
The RUF500’s rotatable bezel is a key functionality of the watch. Its 60-minute graduations allow a diver to accurately and safely monitor diving time and decompression stops. Manufactured by RUF from a hard, corrosion resistant ceramic, the ceramic bezel insert is virtually scratch proof. The bezels knurled edge is carefully designed to offer excellent grip under water, even with gloves.
It is fitted with a bracelet in brushed and polished stainless steel, secured by a fold-over pushbutton deployment clasp. The bracelet extension, allows the watch to be easily worn on top of a diving suit.
The timepiece comes in a beautiful black leather case.
