San Diego: Firefighters Cut Apart Car to Rescue Victims After Violent Crash

11.11.2018 | 2:05 AM | SAN DIEGO - Firefighters rescued two victims from a car that was obliterated after a four vehicle crash, early Sunday morning.

Police and fire responded shortly after 2:00 AM to reports of a multi-vehicle crash on the southbound I-5 just south of Palm Avenue.

Units arriving on scene found a crash involving four vehicles strewn across the freeway. One vehicle, a sports-type vehicle, was completely obliterated with two patients trapped inside.

Firefighters arrived on scene and immediately began efforts to extricate the trapped patients. Using the jaws of life and other power tools, firefighters cut apart the vehicle both victims were trapped in.

After approximately 30 minutes, both victims were extricated. Firefighter paramedics treated the patients on scene before transporting them to UCSD hospital.

At least one victim was reported as having life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the collision was under investigation.
