A figure skating team tournament, the Channel One Cup, has started in Saransk. The organizers have developed a unique format in which the best Russian figure skaters are divided into two teams and compete for a solid cash prize.
On the first day, a jumping tournament was held between mixed teams of girls, men and couples.
Anna Shcherbakova's team won the jumping tournament ahead of Mark Kondratyuk's team. Each of the skaters performed a cascade of two jumps or three with an oiler. Anna Shcherbakova, Makar Ignatov and Andrey Mozalev fought for the honor of the reds, Mark Kondratyuk, Kamila Valieva and Evgeny Semenenko fought for the honor of the blues. Shcherbakova succeeded in the best cascade: a quadruple flip - oiler - triple salchow by 20.86 points. The rest of her team did not disappoint either, thanks to which the Reds won the "shootout" - 54.78:49.54.
The captain of the Blues, Mark Kondratyuk, spoke about the relationship between the teams at the Channel One Cup and the atmosphere at the tournament in Saransk. "We are not at war to spy. Everything is very friendly, culturally, I know Anya Shcherbakova and, I think, we will not have any squabbles. Maybe it's not so interesting to someone, but I think that friendly wrestling is much more valuable and interesting.
Did you have time to walk around the city? Today we walked, walked. Just the trio that completed the jumping festival, we went for a walk. Without any sights, just walking. I hope we will still have time to see something concrete. The city is nice, pleasant.
