The Actor's Craft: Brandon Uranowitz on Making Character Discoveries

Uranowitz discusses what it took to find the essence of his Tony-nominated turns in ''An American in Paris'', ''Falsettos'', and ''Burn This''.

Brandon Uranowitz made a huge mark in the Broadway productions of ''An American in Paris'', ''Falsettos'', and this season's ''Burn This''. In each show, his characters came to life through a series of discoveries in the rehearsal room or onstage, while heeding the advice and wisdom of his directors. The resulting performances — as forlorn composer Adam Hochberg, neurotic psychiatrist Mendel, and high-energy ad man Larry — earned Uranowitz a trio of Tony nominations. Here, he discusses what it took to find the essence of each one.
