Amid the icy winds of the Himalayas, faith reached new heights as Fr. Ninian Allan Doohan of the Diocese of Dunkeld celebrated Holy Mass for peace at Everest Base Camp on May 14, 2025. After a grueling 12-day trek—eight days ascending and four descending—Fr. Doohan offered the Eucharist at noon, dedicating it to global peace. In a Facebook post, he described the pilgrimage not as a record-breaking feat but as a journey of faith, marked by the distribution of holy medals, veneration of relics, heartfelt encounters, and moments of spiritual consolation. This marks another historic moment in a growing tradition of Eucharistic celebrations at the roof of the world, following earlier Masses offered by Fr. Morgan Batt in 2003 and, more recently, by priests from the Archdioceses of Delhi and Ernakulam-Angamaly in 2024. The presence of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus at such altitudes testifies to the boundless reach of divine grace and the Church’s mission of peace.
