BARCELONA - SPAIN

Barcelona is cradled in the North Eastern Mediterranean coast of mainland Spain, about 2 hours drive South from the French Pyrenees.

It's the capital of Catalunya, a region of Northern Spain that has its own unique culture, traditions and personality.

Barcelona city is one of a kind
Few European cities can offer you the wide diversity of cultural experience that you'll find here in Barcelona. Couple that with the luxury of 4.2 km of beach only a short walk from the city centre, warm sunshine most of the year, you have all the makings of a complete holiday in Spain.

MODERN ART
Many great painters and artists worked here at some time and their influence is still evident throughout the city. Two of which are Picasso and Miró who have museums dedicated to some of their more important works. There are also dozens of other museums and art galleries dotted all around the city so you'll always have plenty of art to experience whilst here.

BEACHES
Should you ever find yourself suffering from art and culture overload then you can spend the day recovering on one of Barcelona's sandy beaches only a short stroll from the city centre. Order a sangria at one of the bars and kick off your shoes, sit back and soak up the sun, sea and the view

FOOD
While you're on the beach you can sample some of the best seafood the Mediterranean has to offer, or if you prefer, there are plenty of excellent restaurants and bars that offer tapas. There are also many restaurants providing more conventional dishes if you prefer a traditional meal.

ARCHITECTURE

Gaudí -sagrada familia
Barcelona is home to masterpieces of many great architects. The most famous of which is Antoni Gaudí. Gaudí's work is admired by architects around the World as being one of the most unique and distinctive styles in modern architecture.

PLAÇA CATALUNYA

This is a large square in central Barcelona that is generally considered to be both its city centre and the place where the old city such as the Barri Gòtic and Raval, in Ciutat Vella and the 19th century-built meet.
Some of the city's most important streets and avenues meet at Plaça Catalunya: Passeig de Gràcia, Rambla de Catalunya, La Rambla or Portal de l'Àngel, in addition to Ronda de Sant Pere, Carrer de Vergara or Carrer de Pelai.
The plaza occupies an area of about 50,000 square metres. It is especially known for its fountains and statues, its proximity to some of Barcelona's most popular attractions, and the flocks of pigeons that gather in the centre.

Barcelona Catedral La Seu

The ‘Plaça de la Catedral’ in Barcelona functions as a bypass between the Rambla and the insides of Raval and Via Laietana and the insects of La Ribera. This contrast triggers the following scene: three tourists stop there to decide where to go next

PLAÇA COLON

At the very top of the monument stands a 7.2 m (24 ft) tall bronze statue atop a 40 m (131 ft) tall Corinthian column. The statue was sculpted by Rafael Atché and is said to depict Columbus pointing towards the New World with his right hand, while holding a scroll in the left. It is a commonly held belief that instead of pointing to the west towards the New World, the statue points east towards Columbus's supposed home city of Genoa.

LA BARCELONETA (BEACH)

The Barceloneta was once the home of fishermen, people associated with the fishing trade and the metal industry, and is now one of the city's most visited and popular districts. In 1988, in pre-Olympic days, the decision was taken to demolish the old beachfront restaurants, known as xiringuitos, and public baths, heralding a process of opening the city up to the sea and the modernisation of an area which now offers first-class beaches as the main attraction for its visitors.

PARK GÜELL
This marvellous place was commissioned by Eusebi Güell who wanted to create a stylish park for Barcelona aristocracy.
The park contains amazing stone structures, stunning tiling and fascinating buildings. At the entrance of the park the Gaudí dragon fountain, adorned in beautiful coloured tiling look after the place and brings a magical energy to the whole site.

PALAU NACIONAL - MONTJUÏC

This amazing building was the main site of the 1929 International Exhibition on the hill of Montjuïc in Barcelona. It was designed by Eugenio Cendoya and Enric Catà under the supervision of Pere Domènech i Roura. Since 1934 it has been home to the National Art Museum of Catalonia, also known as the MNAC.
With a ground surface of 32,000 m², the Spanish Renaissance-inspired building has a rectangular floor plan flanked by two side and one rear square sections, with an elliptical dome in the centre. The fountains by the staircases leading to the palace are the work of Carles Buïgas.
Between 1996 and 2004, the palace was extended to accommodate the National Art Museum's entire collection of over 5,000 artworks.
