Not many superstar players showed up at the inaugural NBPA Players Award show, but NBA legend Allen Iverson was there. While most of the awards were given to current NBA players, the NBPA created the Game Changer Award to honor a retired player, and Iverson was the first-ever recipient of the award.
NBA players voted for Iverson to receive the award, and as he said in an emotional speech, he was quite moved by the honor.

“People always say 'what’s up A.I.' and I say the same thing to them 99.9 percent of the time: I tell them, 'the same fight, different round.' And that’s what it is. This world is a world title fight and some rounds, the rounds are days. And some days you’re going to get knocked down and some rounds going to be good, some going to be bad. But the only thing that matters is getting back up and fighting again.”
Iverson was the inspiration for a lot of current NBA players as he was their favorite player growing up. His heart and passion for basketball motivated many players, and now with the Game Changer Award, the NBPA was able to properly thank Iverson for the impact he has had on the lives of so many players.
