This painting didn't require any silicone/dimethicone since I wasn't after cells. When I do want cells:

If I choose to use silicone instead:

The reasons I prefer it are:
- because it dries .... leaves virtually no oily residue once a painting has dried
- has no fumes like the spray silicones
- comes in a super convenient applicator bottle (with a cap that stays attached!)
