The Legacy of Pax River | U.S. Navy Flight Test Documentary

In 1911, Lt. Theodore “Spuds” Ellyson became the first designated Naval Aviator and the first Navy Test Pilot.
This documentary traces the incredible legacy that began with Ellyson’s pioneering flight training and continues today at Naval Air Station Patuxent River (PAX).

As the U.S. Navy’s premier flight test and evaluation center, Pax River has carried forward more than a century of innovation and excellence. Aviators, engineers, and maintainers work side by side to ensure the safety, capability, and superiority of the fleet.

Through archival footage, rare images, and personal stories, the film honors the generations who shaped Naval Aviation — from its earliest days to today’s cutting-edge systems.
