How to handle a big repair list when you can't afford it all:

Separate safety issues from comfort issues. Gas leaks, electrical hazards, carbon monoxide risk → non-negotiable, fix now.
Rank the rest by what's failing soon vs. what's just inefficient. A struggling capacitor will leave you without AC in July. A slightly dirty coil won't.
Knock them out one at a time. A good tech will work with your budget and your timeline — as long as the system is safe to run.

If your contractor is pressuring you to do everything at once or won't let you phase it out, that's a red flag.
