First Cutting Hay | Baling Day 🌾🚜

June 16, 2026 🌾

Baling day on our family farm! Using the JD 4040 tractor and JD 337 baler, we put up around 600 bales of first cutting hay.

Making quality hay is a process that starts days before the baler enters the field. First, the hay is mowed and left to dry. Then it is tedded to help remove moisture and promote even drying. After that, the hay is raked into windrows and finally baled when conditions are right.

Good weather is critical throughout the entire process. Too much moisture can reduce hay quality, while unexpected rain can damage the hay. During hay season, we're always watching the forecast and making the most of every dry hour.

The goal is simple: produce high-quality hay for livestock while preserving as many nutrients as possible.

Thanks for following along with life at K and T's Family Farm! 🚜🌾🐄
