Could I Live Here? Exploring Kovatchevitsa & Leshten ⛰ + Car Problems 😧

Day 3 of my 3-day roadtrip through the West Rhodopes in Bulgaria 🌄

After camping at Batak Lake, I continued my journey towards Kovatchevitsa, Leshten, and finally Bansko — exploring beautiful scenery, pine forests, lakes, and traditional mountain villages along the way.

Google Maps sent me on a 20km dirt road across a mountain plateau, which forced me to turn back and add hours to the drive. On top of that, I noticed smoke coming from under the hood and oil dripping from the car… not ideal during a long drive through remote villages.

Despite the stress of car trouble, I managed to see some of Bulgaria’s most picturesque villages — though many of them felt more like tourist guesthouse spots than real communities. After a long, careful drive, I finally reached Bansko, where I could get the car checked by a mechanic the next day.
