Our walking tour today will take us to Prague's New Town! We'll take in the views of the Vltava River, walk past the Dancing House, down Myslikova Street, see the old brewery U Fleku and finish by Kafka's head!

06:15 The New Town (Nové Město) is a quarter in the city of Prague. New Town is the youngest and most prominent of the five independent (from the Middle Ages until 1784) towns that comprise modern Prague's historic center. New Town was founded in 1348 by Charles IV just outside the city walls to the east and south of the Old Town and encompassed an area of 7.5 km², about three times the size of the Old Town. The population of Prague in 1378 was well over 40,000, perhaps as much as twice that, making it the 4th most populated city north of the Alps and, by area, the 3rd largest city in Europe. Although New Town can trace its current layout to its construction in the 14th century, only a few churches and administrative buildings survive. New Town has many secular and educational buildings, especially magnificent gothic and baroque churches. These, nevertheless, are not the main drawing points for tourists. New Town's most famous landmark is Wenceslas Square, originally built as a horse market and now functions as a center of commerce and tourism. In the 15th century, the Novoměstská radnice, or New Town Hall, was the site of the first of the three defenestrations of Prague.

07:30 The Dancing House (Tančící dům), or Fred and Ginger, is the nickname given to the building on the Rašínovo nábřeží (Rašín Embankment) in Prague, Czech Republic. House was designed by the Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić in cooperation with Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry on a vacant riverfront plot. The construction was completed in 1996. Gehry originally called the house Fred and Ginger (after the dancers Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers – the house resembles a pair of dancers), but this nickname is rarely used. Gehry later discarded his idea, as he was "afraid to import American Hollywood kitsch to Prague."

13:30 Myslíkova is a Prague street in New Town and runs along the border of Prague 1 in the north and Prague 2 in the south. The street connects Masaryk's embankment by the Vltava with Spálena Street by Charles Square; this road fork forms a small square. This street is also the border between the city districts of Prague 1 and Prague 2. The street is on a gentle slope, mostly built up by apartment buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when it became a road with many shops. Famous companies such as the evangelical publishing house and the Blahoslav bookstore (transformed into an antiquarian bookshop after 1990) or a pharmacy, from which a wooden Art Nouveau portal with a cut relief of Hygeia has been preserved, took turns here. Of the traditional restaurant, only U Bubeníčků remained under its original name. The name of Myslíkova Street dates back to about 1884; it bears the name of the local burgher Adam Myslík from Hyršov, Radlice and Košíře and the founder of the Myslík family from Hyršov, the name was created by mistake. The house on the corner of Myslíkova and Spálená streets did not belong to Adam Myslík, as the memorial plaque on the house states, but to Eliáš Myslich of Vilimštejn, a valet at the provincial plaques in the 17th century.

16:15 U Fleků is a pub and microbrewery in Prague, Czech Republic. It occupies buildings around a central courtyard at Křemencova 11 in New Town (Praha 1), not far from the National Theatre. The front facade of the building has an old, highly decorated clock above its door. Founding members of Hajduk Split, at U Fleků.
Initially a family business, the pub was founded in 1499 and therefore celebrated its 500th anniversary in 1999. It has been referred to as the oldest brewery in Prague. In 1762 the brewery was bought by Jakub Flekovský, which gave its current name: U Fleků means in Czech "At the Fleks." After World War II, the company was nationalized, and control was transferred to a board of management appointed by the state. Following the Velvet Revolution, the company was privatized.

24:00 The Head of Franz Kafka (Hlava Franze Kafky), also known as the Statue of Kafka, is an outdoor sculpture by David Černý depicting Bohemian German-language writer Franz Kafka, installed outside the Quadrio shopping center in Prague, Czech Republic. The kinetic sculpture is 11 meters tall and made of 42 rotating panels. Each layer is mechanized and rotates individually.
