This video is from what is for me, the most important evening on the railway outside where I live, Test Train Night. I've done a couple of shorts on this before, but I've never actually done a proper video on one of these services, and since I've already done a couple of videos like this from the test trains on the other line towards Bristol, I thought it was the right time to give that treatment to the services that pass by here.

I originally wanted to film this video at the beginning of this month, when the light in the evening was still strong, but unfortunately, the train got turned round at Totton (likely due to the chaos caused by the heatwave at the time) so it never came down here. But this night, the luck was on my side. Not only did it actually come down here, but it was way ahead of schedule, so it came past at a time when there was still just about light around, which was slowly fade to dark by the time the train return (it was around sunset when this video was filmed).

The Test Trains services that operate on this line are usually operated by a pair of GB Railfreight Class 73/9's, which in this case, the locos operating this service were 73962 'Dick Mabbutt' & 73964 'Jeanette'. Two SWR Class 444 Desiro's also appear in this video during the interlude period, which those units are 444016 & 444036.
