Act10 | The Cleansing of the Temple | "My Father's House" | John 2

#bible, #jesus, #christian

Jesus arrived at the Jerusalem Temple for Passover, but what He found was not a place of worship. The sacred courtyards had been turned into a noisy, filthy marketplace. The air was thick with the smell of animal manure and the greedy shouts of money changers.

"Buy your sacrifices here! Best rates for the temple tax!"

Watching this desecration, Jesus’ eyes filled with righteous anger. Gathering some cords from the ground, He braided a firm whip. Without hesitation, He swung it, driving the sheep and cattle out of the temple courts.

Animals cried out, and merchants screamed as chaos erupted. Jesus then marched straight to the money changers, kicking over their heavy tables. Thousands of coins scattered and crashed onto the marble floor. Grabbing the cages of the dove sellers, He thundered with absolute authority:

"Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!"
(John 2:16)

No one dared to stand in His way.

As the merchants fled and the temple grew quiet, the stunned religious leaders surrounded Him, demanding answers.

"What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?"
(John 2:18)

Looking at the massive stone pillars around them, Jesus delivered a shocking prophecy about His own death and resurrection:

"Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days."
(John 2:19)

The Jewish leaders laughed in His face:

"It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?"
(John 2:20)

But the temple He had spoken of was His body.
