What Ghost of Tsushima Does Best

Welcome back its 9 and today were going to discuss the latest reveals of ghost of tsushima and what I believe sucker punch is doing well that other games could and should adopt where it fits.

Something that stood out to me instantly when watching the 18 minute demo was just how clean the HUD was. By clean I mean the lack there of and this is something that I would love to see game devs do more often because when we have a map in the corner and all these different displays it distracts our eyes from the true beauty of the game and as we know screen real estate is a commodity. Now, I know there are games that do this as well but I mean to say I would love to see this become a standard.

A lot of times we have mini maps and trails on the ground to tell us where to go and Ghost of Tsushima does not rely on this rather it takes things in more of a unique direction using a “guiding wind” to direct players on how to get to waypoints and objectives.

Typically when you play a 3rd person action adventure game an enemy will spot you and instantly attack you because thats just what they do. With Ghosts it seems they have added another layer to it all with enemies fearing jin as he stealthy executes opponent’s, this will add an interesting twist encouraging us to use stealthier tactics and not having to necessarily kill everyone in site in order to roam freely.

Environmental weapons are not anything new to video games but I have to say it is refreshing to see them utilized in this game as the typical grab your weapon and hit enemy till they are dead can get stale. This is yet another way Ghosts does things right and I personally think it deserves the praise.

Customization is abundant in Ghosts and it all plays a purpose as everything you equip makes a difference and to top it off you also have the typical skill points you can spend in different categories. This may not be anything never seen before, but it is nice to see equipment matter and make a difference in just how you play the game.

The most impressive new thing about ghosts that I cant recall a game doing as well is the photo mode. The sheer amount of options in the photo mode gives us a ridiculous variety of options when taking a photo even down to the direction of the wind in the already beautiful world of Tsushima.

Of course we have the cherry on the top with audio tracks, and visual settings with black and white and film grain mode to mimic classic samurai films just shows the attention to detail and trying to create an authentic experience.

While ghosts does take a lot from other games and implements it into its game it also does a lot that we don’t see as frequently and it put a smile on my face as someone who didn’t particularly enjoy the infamous games. Sonys State of Play sold me on Ghost of Tsushima and I can’t wait to play it and tell you all about it, but until then what do you think?
