Iceland Road Trip Vlog // Day 4: Kleifarvatn Lake, Seltún, Brimketill, Bridge Between Continents

It's our last full day in Iceland and I can't believe how fast the time flew by! Because my Mom and I both have early flights we got an early start to the day exploring the Reykjanes Peninsula.

Come along with us as we explore the Reykjanes Peninsula! *filmed August 2019*

The Reykjanes Peninsula is an often overlooked area of Iceland that some pretty awesome sights. Our first stop of the day was to the famous Thorufoss Waterfall which was in Season 4 of Game of Thrones. From there we headed to Kleifarvatn which is the largest lake on Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland. There are tons of viewpoints to see Kleifarvatn and the southern area of the Reykjanes Peninsula from different angles.

On our way to the Seltún Geothermal Area we stopped at Grænavatn lake, which is a large volcanic crater that is so vivid, the video does not do it justice. Keeping with the colorful theme of Grænavatn lake, we headed over to the Seltún Geothermal Area. The Seltún Geothermal Area has many mudpots and fumaroles, and minerals deposited from geothermal solutions provide colorful sediments. It is a great place to stretch your legs and get in a bit of hike but be advised that the sulfur smell is very strong.

After grabbing lunch in Grindavík and admiring the murky blue waters of the famous Blue Lagoon, we stopped at the Brimketill lava rock pool. Brimketill is a coastal rock pool on the Reykjanes Peninsula, renowned for its differing beauty between the seasons and its folklore. Brimketill is made out of lava rock, created by the volcanism of the Reykjanes Peninsula. The black lava rock is a sight to behold!

A short drive from Brimketill is the Gunnuhver geothermal area. Gunnuhver is a highly active geothermal area of mud pools and steam vents on the southwest part of the Reykjanes Peninsula. Named after an angry female ghost, Gudrun, whose spirit was trapped in the hot springs by a priest 400 years ago. The steamy area has an eerie atmosphere and an incredible sulfur vapor.

Our last stop before heading to Keflavik was to the Bridge Between Continents. The Bridge between two continents at Sandvík is a small footbridge over a major fissure which provides clear evidence of the presence of a diverging plate margin. The bridge was built as a symbol of the connection between Europe and North America.
