Nissan Leaf front brake pads and discs replacement detailed how to guide

Video showing the process of Nissan Leaf front brake pads and discs replacement, featuring a 2015 Nissan Leaf Acenta with about 24500 miles.

In the introduction I explain my views on why so many Nissan Leafs (Leaves?) need to have their front brake pads and discs replaced at such low mileages. The main reason being the regenerative braking, which means the front brakes don't do as much work as they would on an internal combustion engine car. As a result, the brake pads don't move as much or as often, so they are more likely to get stuck in the pad carrier / bracket. The second problem is that the brakes are often not serviced properly.

The video is also relevant if you want to service the front brakes on your 1st generation Nissan Leaf, even if they don't need to be replaced. I go through the differences in the process for servicing at the end of the video. Hopefully by doing this regularly you'll avoid the need to replace them before they are fully worn out. If you don't work on your car yourself, make sure you ask your mechanic to dismantle, clean and lubricate the brakes at each major service.

This detailed how to video shows you how to dismantle the front brakes, including removing the front brake pads and discs. It covers cleaning the pad carrier, including the removable hardware, then reassembly.

You may be wondering why I didn't have the brake discs resurfaced or skimmed. Where I'm based, it is cheaper to fit new discs and recycle the old ones than it is to have the old ones resurfaced. So now you know!
