How to turn a scale into a professional sounding BLUES SOLO - Ukulele Tutorial
Targeted towards beginners in terms of soloing and playing lead, this simple to follow phrasing guide will turn the fumbling and guessing around with the scale into a strategic plan to get the scale and the chords to stick together, sounding like a professional solo!
We kick things off with a basic review of a 12 bar blues in A if you don't know, that way you can strum and record it on your phone or jam it out with a friend.
After we review the first two shapes of the pentatonic scale, that is all we need for the exercise with the exception of one E note from the 3rd shape.
Then I walk you through how to build a solo using basic resolution. The phrasing is simple, your riffs should finish on an A note when played over the first 4 bars, all A7. 5 and 6 are D7, so if you have a lick or a phrase finish there, you should land on the D note then back to the A note fore bars 7 and 8, both A7. Lastly the turnaround is E7, D7, A7 E7 where we are careful to hit on the root notes on their respective chords, that is with a good old fashioned delta turnaround at the end of the solo, classic turnarounds are a great way to end your shred and they really make your phrasing more of an 8 bar approach if you have a handful of turnarounds in your pocket, even more useful if you know the theory behind constructing a turnaround so you can really create as many lines at the end as you want.
