The Machine Stops Opera - Clips 1,2,3

Clips 1, 2, and 3 from THE MACHINE STOPS - an Opera in Two Acts by John Lake and Cecile Goding.
This is a “workshop” performance, with the piano taking the place of the orchestra, and with the characters reading the musical score.
THE MACHINE STOPS is based on a story of the same name written by the British author E. M. Forster in 1909. The story is set in the future, and most people live underground in individual cubicles, believing that the world’s surface is uninhabitable. Communication is through hand-held devices only imagined in the early twentieth century. The story centers around the relationship between Vashti, a musicologist who spends her time lecturing to hundreds of Friends about music (and everything else), and her unconventional son Kuno.
