Leak-Down Testing - PT. 1 | QG15DE E-Throttle

This QG15DE E-Throttle (DBW) engine was tested using both cranking compression and cylinder leak-down testing.

The engine runs well with:
No misfires
No power loss
Stable idle
No coolant leakage

However, leak-down testing revealed a serious issue that compression testing alone did not clearly expose.

Compression Test Results
Cylinder #1 – 173 PSI
Cylinder #2 – 175 PSI
Cylinder #3 – 176 PSI
Cylinder #4 – 174 PSI

Compression looked balanced across all cylinders.

Leak-Down Test Results
Cylinder #1 – Less than 5% leakage
Cylinder #2 – Less than 5% leakage
Cylinder #3 – Almost 80% leakage
Cylinder #4 – Over 40% leakage

Cylinder #3 was leaking into the #4 spark plug tube, and Cylinder #4 was leaking into the #2 spark plug tube.

No leakage was found into the coolant passages.

Key Finding
Even with good cranking compression, Cylinders #3 and #4 had major leakage under leak-down testing. This points to a possible valve sealing issue, especially on the intake valves for Cylinders #3 and #4.
