Why People Cross Your Boundaries

Have you ever wondered why some people take advantage of kindness?

In 1974, artist Marina Abramović conducted a shocking experiment that revealed a dark side of human behavior. For six hours, she stood completely still in an art gallery beside a table containing 72 objects. A sign informed visitors that she was an "object" and that they could do whatever they wanted, with no consequences.

At first, people were kind. They offered flowers and grapes. But as time passed and people realized there would be no accountability, their behavior changed. Some became cruel, crossing boundaries they would never normally cross.

The lesson is powerful: when people think there are no consequences, or when they believe someone won't defend themselves, they often push boundaries further and further.

This doesn't just happen in an art gallery. It can happen in friendships, families, workplaces, and relationships. When people think you'll always stay silent, they may start taking advantage of your kindness.

Healthy boundaries are not selfish—they are necessary. Respect yourself enough to communicate your limits clearly and respectfully.

You are a human being, not an object.
