Management of Sepsis & Septic Shock

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition accounting for a more significant global burden, especially in low- and middle-income countries. According to the WHO report, 48.9 million cases and 11 million sepsis-related deaths occurred worldwide in 2017. The most frequent organisms in patients with sepsis include Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Enterobacter, and Pseudomonas spp. If not diagnosed early or left untreated, it may lead to organ dysfunction and septic shock. The management and prevention of sepsis need a multidisciplinary approach, including good hygiene practices in the community and health care settings, vaccinations, improved sanitation, and timely diagnosis and treatment.
