Shemitta: Pruzbul & Debts - An essential Halacha Shiur on arranging a Pruzbul before Rosh HaShana to secure your debts - given by Rabbi Zobin

Outstanding loans are cancelled on the last day of the Shemitta year (Erev Rosh Hashanah, Sunday, September 25th). 

If you wish to collect outstanding loans beyond this date you need to make a Pruzbul document. 

This document, as designed by Hillel in the Mishnah,entrusts all personal loans to be collected by a Beit Din; such debts are, therefore, not cancelled and can then be collected in the normal way.

All forms must be submitted by 10pm on Motzei Shabbat 24th September at the latest. No details of amounts or debtors are required.

במושב שלשה דיינים כאחד היינו ובא לפנינו ........................................................ואמר לנו הן שנה זה היא שנת השביעית ויש לי חובות בשטר ובעל פה והריני מוסר לכם פרוזבול שאני מרשה אתכם לגבות כל חובות שיש לי על איזה אנשים או נשים, ומעתה תהיו לי דיינים ותגבוהו ותקבלוהו עבורי, ואם לא תגבוהו אותם, מעתה כיון שמסרתי לכם פרוזבול זה, אני גובה כל חוב שיש לי עד היום אצל כל אדם כל זמן שארצה.
ואנחנו בית דין שמענו דבריו ויפינו כחו שלא תשמט לו ויגבה כל חובתיו על ידי פרוזבול זה כתקנת הלל וחז"ל.
ובאנו על החתום יום כ"ו לחודש אלול שנת תשפ"ב פה בעיר לונדון הבירה
