Jensen Interceptor SIII - 1973 - jenden.eu online classic car auctions
This car is a ‘H’ series car, which makes is rare and quite special, as it was one of the first with the 7.2 litre, 440 cubic inch engine.
These first-batch engines came with a higher 10.1:1 compression ratio (not far off the SP six pack engine compression with 10.3:1.
The ‘H’ series ran for only 5 months of production, from June 1972 to December 1972. Then in 1973 it was designated as a ‘J’ model. The 1973 and later engines were detuned a bit and had a compression ratio of around 9.0:1. These rare ‘H’ series cars appear quite a bit quicker than the "J" series cars.
The car is painted in a Jensen colour of Cerise.
There are some small spiderweb stress cracks in the paint on the hood - see the pictures.
The leading edge of the bonnet has some touch up marks where it has touched the front of the car when the hood is lifted.
The glass is all perfect.
Tires are perfect and still have significant life in them.
Window seals are good - functional - but a little dry in places. I have new window seal / rubber for the next owner.
The Chrome on the bumpers is near perfect everywhere except one small spot on the front right under the headlights.
All electrics / lights / horn etc function perfectly.
The Electric windows operate up and down at a good speed.
The rear upholstery is in great condition - nobody has ever sat back there.
The front seats display cracking and wear / tear marks in the leather. This is simply due to their age. I have them covered with period correct seat covers at the moment.
The MotoLita steering wheel is period correct, and gives the car more elegance in driving.
The engine has had some significant upgrades. New master auxiliary fan, new fuel pump, alternator, braided steel fuel lines, 440 Magnum Airbox / Carb, new points, plugs and leads.
It is running fantastically - I had it on the freeway at 80mph last week and it did not skip a beat.
The car has been in a dry, warm California climate. No rain, snow, salt ever.
The car pulls well through the gears, has no play in the steering, and is very comfortable at 80mph.
It's a rare and beautiful GT car, better built than Aston Martin in the day, and fairly simple mechanically.
