Why Commemorate Yeats?

The School of English, Trinity and Trinity Journal of Literary Translation hosted a public lecture and reading in celebration of W.B. Yeats on Tueday December 8th, 2015. At the event Professor Chris Morash, the Seamus Heaney Professor of Irish Writing, explored that dissonance between Yeats the public figure and Yeats the poet in the context of the current focus in Irish life on commemoration and the formation of policy in relation to the arts. The lecture was interpolated with readings of new translations of Yeats’ work. These come from a project under taken this year by the Trinity Journal of Literary Translation to foster new translations of, and creative responses to, Yeats work to be published in serialised a digital instalments in the coming months and in print in a Yeats Special Edition at the end of the academic year.
