Heat Transfer Printing onto Light and DARK garments.
This video demo is a little longer usual, so, thanks for hanging in there with us as we offer you a spin on how to use a transfer paper designed for light color garments to print onto a Black
t-shirt.
In this video, we’re featuring these HEAT TRANSFER papers:
RhinoDARK™ is for black and all dark apparel. It’s a 2-paper laser system using an A Sheet (image) that is a clear, polyester sheet and a B Sheet that is the transfer sheet. SingleStep™ is a one step process used for transferring images onto light color garments. Both papers are no weed. For your own testing purposes, we offer 5 packs for purchase at: https://rhinotechinc.com/digital-transfer/laser-heat-transfer-paper
In demo-ing both papers on a black T-shirt, Chris will show you how to use SingleStep™ (even though it’s for use on light color garments) with a dark shirt by adding the magic of METALLIC FOIL. You’ll see that because SingleStep™ will adhere to 100% cotton, 50/50 blends and 100% polyester, the actual shirt color won’t be an issue when transferring.
Printing the Transfers:
We use an OKI 711WT (white toner) printer to print the transfers. It’s recommended that you use the straight-through by-pass when printing an image onto transfer paper. The multi-color design was printed onto RhinoDARK™. The black bat was printed onto SingleStep™.
The SingleStep™ Transfer process:
1. Place shirt on the heat press bed.
2. Center image on the shirt.
3. Using a Geo Knight DK20S Heat Press, heat press image at 330 degrees F for 25 seconds using Medium to Heavy pressure.
4. Let the shirt sit for 7 – 10 seconds and Hot Peel by starting at a corner of the paper and rolling it back in a smooth motion.
Notice that only the toner has transferred to the fabric.
The RhinoDARK™ Transfer process:
1. Marry the A Sheet (image sheet) to the B Sheet by placing A sheet on the bottom and the B Sheet (transfer sheet) on top.
2. Place parchment paper on the heat press bed.
3. Heat press A and B sheets together at 315 degrees for 90 seconds with Medium to Heavy pressure.
4. Hot Peel by starting at a corner and rolling back the paper.
5. The B sheet (transfer sheet) coating transfers to the A sheet (image sheet).
Though RhinoDARK is a weedless paper, we do recommend trimming the A Sheet (image sheet) around the edges where a bit of the B Sheet has transferred.
6. Place parchment paper on the heat press bed.
7. Place t-shirt on top and center design.
8. Heat press at 315 degrees F for 30 seconds with Medium to Heavy pressure.
9. Remove parchment paper.
10. This is a Cool Peel, so wait for 7 – 10 seconds or until paper is cool to the touch.
11. Starting at a corner, roll paper back in one smooth motion.
The Foil Process:
1. Place parchment paper on the heat press bed.
2. Trim foil to lay flat over design or wrinkle foil to get a distressed look.
3. Place parchment paper over foil.
4. Press at 330 degrees F. for 30 seconds with Medium to Heavy Pressure.
5. Remove parchment paper.
6. Use a soft cloth to rub over the foil to ensure that there are no air bubbles.
7. This is a Cool Peel, so wait up to 30 seconds and then peel off foil.
And, that’s how you work with RhinoDARK™ and SingleStep™ on dark color garments to add some zing, bling, and added value.
