Google's new AI assistant Gemini Spark works even when you don't. Announced by CEO Sundar Pichai at Google I/O this month, Spark runs on cloud-based virtual machines as a persistent 24/7 agent connected to your Google account. It links directly to Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, and Slides. In early hands-on testing by TechCrunch, Spark handled shopping research, trip packing lists, local event suggestions, and newsletter summaries effectively. The assistant can also monitor products for price drops and flag key articles across your subscriptions. But its limits are clear. Spark cannot access Google Keep, and it won't connect to third-party apps like the restaurant booking service Resy or any flight search tool. iPhone users also miss out on hardware button access. What Google hasn't solved yet is making Spark useful outside the walls of its own ecosystem.
