Title: “LAPD Assistant Police Chief Gates on crime rates in Los Angeles.” Date: December 27, 1974.

Summary: Los Angeles Police Department Assistant Police Chief Daryl Gates holds a press conference where he announces that rises in crime rates in Los Angeles are not as significant as national increases. He credits these lower crime rates to effective police work and programs implemented by Chief Edward Davis that bring police and the Los Angeles community together. Gates alleges that the criminal justice system is not working effectively, as reflected by incarceration rates of those charged with crimes. He further states that he is hopeful crime rates can be reduced and stabilized with the help of the public. Includes shots of a locked gate, window bars, security guards in a building lobby, and a store selling wrought iron window guards. Some footage lacks sound.
