I show you an easy way to make an Irish Chain quilt. Follow along step by step while I make make this quilt block using a Moda Layer Cake.
I love the look of this black and white fabric paired with the Layer Cake in greys, whites and creams to make a stunning quilt block.
I make the quilt by piecing rows together instead of doing it the traditional way. Each quilt block measures 14 inches once completed.

I used my method to create my Irish Chain quilt. I started with a layer cake so had to cut this firstly into 2 ½ “ strips. Each piece will give you 4 strips 2 ½ “ x 10” in size.
WHITE FABRIC
From the white yardage cut 2 ½ “ strips, 4 ½ “ strips and 6 ½ “ strips.
BLACK FABRIC
From the black yardage cut 2 ½ “ strips
Refer to the video on how to put it together.
ROW1 and ROW 7 are 1 x black, 1 x pattern, 6.5” white, 1 x pattern, 1 x black. Cut this piece into 4 strips as per the dotted lines, each strip measures 2 ½ “
ROW 2 and row 6 This is made up of 2 ½ “ squares
ROW 3 and 5 are made up of 2 ½ “ squares
MIDDLE ROW is 4 ½ “ strips of white on each end and 2 ½ “ squares in the middle
