The ocean is perhaps the most mysterious part of our planet. Just when we think we know enough about it, more mysterious creatures are discovered - so we can only guess the amount of animals and plants that live down there, but we can never know for sure! Some people even claim that there are creatures down there that are still sleeping and one day, they will wake up and come up to the surface to break havoc and bring chaos to all of us who live out of the water. Those creatures might be a myth or they might be real - we don’t know yet! But putting myths aside, today we’ll be looking at “10 Biggest Ocean Monsters”. We’ll explore the underwater world to find out more about the largest creatures that inhabit this mysterious setting. You might know about the largest animal in the ocean, but is that animal also the longest one and most terrifying one? Stay with me all the way to the number one pick and find out!

Giant Oceanic Manta Ray

Let's start this list with an animal from a group that you've probably seen around if you've gone snorkeling or even to the aquarium: the impressive ray fish. Now, the largest animal of this group is also one of the largest animals underwater - I'm talking about the giant ocean manta with a body that can be as long as 7 meters! And it can weigh up to 3,000 kilos! Not only is it a very big animal, but it's also the one with the biggest brain among all fish. Up until a few years ago, the Giant Ocean Manta was part of the manta family due to its similarities with other ray fish in this group. But after some DNA testing, scientists found out that the Giant Manta was more related to the Mobula family. However, they never dropped the "manta" out of its common name. This massive fish likes to live in tropical waters, far from land, so don't expect to find them near you - they're not like their small relatives that like to hang out near the reef! When they're in deep waters, they prefer to swim in a straight line, but they just bask or swim in a very lazy way when they are in shallow waters.

Giant Pacific Octopus

The giant pacific octopus is not only the largest octopus in the world, but also the one that lives the longest. On average, they can be 5 meters long and weigh about 50 kilos. But there are records that show that some of them can be as big as 9 meters long, weigh 270 kilos and live up to five years, which is a lot in octopus years! Both, male and female, usually die after breeding - so it seems like their lives' main purpose is to reproduce and then die. However, in those 3 to 5 years of existence, they are one of the biggest animals in the ocean. They're carnivores and their preferred meals include shrimp, clams, lobsters, and different types of fish. Sometimes you can even see them eat birds and some types of shark! One of their most impressive characteristics is their camouflage: with their red and brown heads, they perfectly blend with the landscape at the bottom of the ocean floor. The pigments on their skin allow them to blend with corals, rocks and all sorts of plants underwater. You might swim by one and you won't notice, unless you're really experienced in these creatures!

Great White Shark
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXaIykJdtwM )

The great white shark and pretty much every shark in general gained a lot of bad reputation thanks to movies like Jaws. But honestly, Hollywood hasn't made justice to these animals. While they can be dangerous and cause some fatalities, they're not necessarily looking forward to eat you. However, they are pretty massive - they can be as long as 7 meters, which is about three times the size of an average human; and they can weigh as much as 1,100 kilos. With that size, they are able to prey on heavy mammals that dare to come near them. But when it comes to humans and great white sharks, there are about 5 deadly encounters reported per year...in the whole world. Usually their victims are innocent surfers that get mistaken for sea lions. Some people might argue that the great white sharks pretty much own the ocean environment as there are usually no natural predators chasing after them.
