Gay Byrne Pranked by Mike Murphy, Ireland 1982

A piece to camera from Gay Byrne is constantly interrupted by an enthusiastic French football fan. However all is not as it seems.

A coup for Mike Murphy as he plays a prank on his colleague and friend Gay Byrne in a candid camera sketch for ‘The Live Mike’.

Acting as an overenthusiastic Frenchman, Murphy constantly interrupts and torments Byrne as he films a piece to camera at Trinity College. Gay Byrne finally cracks telling the French football supporter where to go.

This episode of ‘The Live Mike’ was broadcast on 8 January 1982.

‘The Live Mike’ ran on RTÉ between 1979 and 1983 and combined music, comedy sketches and studio guests.
