Here is how it work's, it's very important to first learn the basics about options before you start trading options. YOU MUST first know about the GREEKS: DELTA, GAMMA, THETA, VEGA, & RHO. You must also pay close attention to IMPLIED VOLATILITY (IV) in order to avoid being IV CRUSHED. Knowing each of these will put you in a good position of coming out ahead and very profitable.

Make sure you always buy options that has enough volume to sell it back to the market. Always buy Make sure you have a lot of volume to avoid being IV CRUSHED. BUY Longer dated options in order to avoid being Theta Crushed. Theta will destroy you, this is time decay of your option expiring worthless.

Delta pays your bills pretty much. As Delta goes up your option increases in value as well. Buying more contract increases your risks as your options can go either way.

When you buy a option you are paying a premium for 1 contract which is 100 share of that stock. 1 contract = 100 shares. You are essentially buying insurance so if the stock goes down you don't lose 100 shares worth of that stock, your premium only goes down which is a lot less than owning 100 shares of that stock.

Also, the best times to buy options are usually during the time a company is announcing their earnings. That way your premium goes up in value and you make more money, but at the same time the stock might go down a lot in value as well and your option goes down. Unless you bought a put option which is great news if the stock goes down because you are betting the price of the stock will drop.

Make sure to always do you're own research before making any final decisions on buying any call or put options on a stock.
